It Doesn’t Get Better

While I’m against bullying, I have a HUGE problem with allowing individuals to live in their sin and lie to them that life gets better when you remain in a state of sin.

Are we essentially saying:

  • It’s okay to be an alcoholic…
  • It’s okay to swear to your parents…
  • It’s okay to beat your wife (some people think this is okay)…
  • It’s okay to look at porn…
  • etc. etc. etc. etc.

Because after all… it gets better.

Thoughts?

Signs of a Healthy Church

We have been in thought for some time regarding the definition of what a “heathy church” looks like.  Seeing how the Bible speaks to all things, here is my list of nine traits I see of a healthy church according to Acts 2:42-47:

  1. A DEVOTION to the apostles TEACHING: A healthy church has people who are DEVOTED to the teaching of God’s Word. (42)
  2. A DEVOTION to the FELLOWSHIP: A healthy church does takes the Word as a foundation for community. (42)
  3. A DEVOTION to the BREAKING of BREAD: A healthy church eats together REGULARLY.  Common meals were simply that, common. (42 & 46)
  4. A DEVOTION to prayer: A healthy church spends time in ONE accord. (Acts 1:14; 2:42)
  5. AWE: A heathy church has an “awe” at the work being done by the Lord. (43)
  6. A DEVOTION to DISTRIBUTION: A healthy church distributes possessions and provides services based on the needs of the people (pro bono) (45)
  7. A GLAD and GENEROUS HEART: A heathy church is content with what God gives.  The people are POSITIVE in their praise. (46 & 47)
  8. A PROPER STANDING: A heathy church has FAVOR with ALL the people (47)
  9. A INCREASE of NUMBERS: A heathy church sees the Lord add to their numbers DAY by DAY through the evangelism of the people (not just from one individual) (47)

What would you add to the list?  What would you take away?

Discipline Implementation (Prayer)

Pastor Mike Fanning’s gave our youth a message tonight at Velocity on Paul’s prayer requests and how to pray. Will you/Can you pray this way with us this week?

  1. PRAY: God help me to understand your Word, the Bible (Eph. 1:16-17).
  2. PRAY: God I need your strength through the Holy Spirit (Eph. 3:16-19).
  3. PRAY: God help me to know your love and experience it at a deeper level (Eph. 3:16-19).
  4. PRAY: God help me to pray for others (Eph. 6:18-20).
  5. PRAY: God give me the words to say to declare the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Eph. 6:18-20).
  6. PRAY: God help me to love others more and more (Phil. 1:9)
  7. PRAY: God show me your will for my life (Col. 1:9-12).

Discipline yourself.

I dare you!

A Discipline Story

The following is a video we played for our teenagers demonstrating what spiritual discipline looks like in my life and how I implement it.  It was a powerful illustration that the teens really latched onto.

How are you spiritually disciplining yourself?

My Conversation with Ken

I got a chance to sit down and talk to Ken Davis about his trip with Compassion and how God is using him in the ministry. It was a great conversation and an awesome ability to highlight the need to resolve spiritual apathy and move into being more spiritually authentic.

Here is the video:

What a great guy.

P.S. I love having Julie (as Ken talks about on the video) on our youth staff.  She is an unreal servant of the Lord.

Prayer Team

To those that pray in Jesus name:

I’m assembling an e-mail group/team for those that would be willing to provide prayer support regarding ministry/personal related items. If you would have the desire and be willing to commit (seriously) to praying for future us, our ministry, and our family related items as they present themselves, please simply comment or send a message with your name and e-mail address so I can add you to the list.

Blessings.
