Sunday Set List (The Rundown for 12/28)

The week after Christmas set (A.K.A. Let’s play some old school songs that people might have forgotten about.)

Worship Leaders – Jordan Muck on acoustic guitar.  Bethany Muck on keys and lead vocals.  Cory Done on drums.

  • 9:00 – Trading My Sorrows: Darrell Evens
  • 9:05 – Every Move I Make: David Ruis
  • 9:10 – Light the Fire Again: Brian Doerksen
  • 9:15 – Announcements and Offering (See Highland Community Church Website for announcements (click here)
  • 9:20 – Lord You Have My Heart: Delirious
  • 9:25 – Change My Heart O’ God: Eddie Espinosa
  • 9:30 – Message – The Struggle With the Sin Nature
  • 9:55 – Light the Fire Again: Brian Doerksen
  • 10:00 – See ya in the week!!!

NOTES:  The first three songs were all done by the three worship leaders with voice, one acoustic guitar, and a djembe (like I said, old school worship style).  As soon as announcements were done we cleared the stage to showcase the last two songs.  Bethany played both on the keyboard.

I wish I could say that it was a good Sunday (it was for the most part), however, I get frustrated with the body sometimes because they don’t sing (I shouldn’t say they don’t sing, let’s say most of them don’t sing).  The book of Psalms speaks loudly about the importance of song to the Lord and as I leader I desire to hear the people sing.  I think we (the worship team) are having a hard time showing the people the importance of singing to the Lord.  Any one struggle with this as well?  Got any ideas?

I would love to hear your feedback.

Sometimes the lack of participation in corporate worship is a reflection of a lack of private worship. Many people understand the the importance of prayer and Bible reading and yet lack an understanding of private worship. If we have been worshiping our Lord during the week, it should just pour out of us when we gather together as the body of Chirst. Sometimes it can even reflect a lack of private worship on the part of the worship team. At our practices, we emphasize the importance of worship in our private lives if we are to be able to lead others in worship. It’s not a performance, it’s not a show – we are facilitating others in worship. If our hearts aren’t ready to do that, if we haven’t prepared our hearts with worship during the week, then we are going to fall flat when we try to lead others.

I just gave Bethany a book for Christmas on what Tozer says about worship. I also have a great book on worship by David Jeremiah that you can borrow if you want.

We have times when the people really sing out and other times not so much. I’m not sure what changes or makes the difference from one week to the next but I totally agree with Larry on private worship!
