How to Win

If you know me at all, you know that losing isn’t one of my strong points.  I’m pretty passionate about coming out on top in the end.  I think everyone wants to win.

Here’s some points to help you “win”.

  1. Plan Ahead and be Prepared – Planning ahead is one of the greatest ways to be prepared.  If you have a plan for what’s coming in the future, that means your prepared.  You must have to have a strategy for everything.  Think, “How am I going to _______?”  or “What do I need to do to accomplish right now to be prepared for this battle?”  Tackle all the “W” questions.  (Who, what, when, where, why, and how come).   I would call this planning ahead strategy, vision.  Proverbs 29:18 says “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”  Vision is a huge part of planning ahead and being prepared.  I have written on vision a few times; here, here, and here.
  2. Do Your Homework – Most loses come from not studying the other team.  I just watched the Boston Celtics win the NBA playoffs last night.  I have no doubt in my mind that they spent hours watching the Lakers play ball before hey jumped onto the court with them.  The winner will always be the person who watched their opponent like a hawk.
  3. Give 100% – Nobody wins playing at 50%.   I watched Tiger Woods win the U.S. Open the other day by not quitting.  He had a bum knee, hobbled his way around the course for the weekend, and still stuck won the match by giving everything he had.  Champions play at 100% no matter what the circumstances.
  4. Sacrifice – Winning takes a lot of sacrifice.  What are you willing to give up to win?  I remember when I was in training for my half marathon.  I had to give up so many other “good” things to train for the race.  In the end it was worth it all.
  5. Pray – Every time I think of a winner, I see someone that humbles themselves before the battle, devoted on his or her knees to prayer.  If God’s not in this with me, then there’s no point in even stepping into the ring.

How are you “winning”?
